Local Network Fund for Children and Young People

Funding area: England
End date: 31/03/2008

The Local Network Fund for Children and Young People provides small
grants and capacity building support for small voluntary organisations
working with children and young people. The object of the Fund is to
enable communities to develop projects and activities for children and
young people with limited opportunities or access to services that
many young people take for granted.

Total Fund Value: £ 40,000,000
Grant value average: £ 5,000
Grant Value - minimum: £ 250
Grant Value - maximum: £ 7,000

Most grants will range between £250 and £7,000, for one year's funding
only. However, due to an increase in applications during the final
year of operation, many Administrators have already fully committed
their LNF grants expenditure. See the 'Latest Information' section for
details.

The Local Network Fund for Children and Young People supports small
voluntary groups to improve outcomes and opportunities for children
and young people aged 0-19 (25 for young people with learning
disabilities). The Fund is targeted to children and young people who
would not otherwise have access to such opportunities.

The fund is a seven-year programme, delivered across England through a
network of 57 voluntary sector organisations with community
development and grant making experience. The DCSF works in partnership
with community foundations, rural community councils, councils for
voluntary service and grant making trusts to provide an experienced
fund administrator in each area. Administrators ensure that outreach
and support are available to support applicants. Decisions on
allocating funding are made by assessment panels comprising people
with knowledge of issues faced by children in the communities served
by the funds.

Advice and support on project development, establishing and running
community groups and developing safeguarding procedures, is available
along with grants between £250 and £7,000.

Applications are invited under the themes outlined in Every Child
Matters:

Being healthy: projects or activities that promote a healthy lifestyle
so that children and young people are able to enjoy good health (e.g.
sports sessions, healthy eating classes, peer support programmes on
drug misuse).

Staying safe: projects or activities that contribute to children and
young people being protected from harm and neglect and growing up able
to look after themselves (e.g. anti bullying projects, safe cycling
groups, after-school clubs, self-defence groups).

Enjoying and achieving: projects or activities that help children and
young people maximise their potential and develop skills for adulthood
(e.g. theatre arts groups, self advocacy skills programmes, cultural
dance and music projects).

Making a positive contribution: projects or activities which enable
children and young people to use their skills and abilities in ways to
enhance their own lives and the lives of their community (e.g.
conservation schemes, recycling programmes, mentoring projects).

Achieving economic well-being: projects or activities which help
children and young people overcome income barriers and achieve their
full potential in life (e.g. preparation for work and training,
financial literacy classes for young people).

Administrators must ensure that all Local Network Fund activity is
concluded by 31 March 2008. Due to an increase in applications during
the final year of operation, many Administrators have already fully
committed their LNF grants expenditure.

Therefore, if you want to make an application for funding call the LNF
National Call Centre on: 0845 113 0161 (RNID Typetalk: 18001 0845 113
0161) and they will let you know whether funding is still available in
your area.

Applicants are also advised to contact their local Administrator to
check recommended closure dates for any new projects.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but decisions on funding
awards are made according to the schedule of the review panels in each
area.
