GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards

GlaxoSmithKline's IMPACT Awards are now in their eleventh year and are
designed to recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent
work to improve people's health. They are funded by GlaxoSmithKline
and managed in partnership with the King's Fund, a leading independent
health charity working to improve health and social care.

The Awards are open to registered charities that are at least three
years old, working in a health related field in the UK, with a total
annual income under £1 million.

Ten winners receive £25,000 and an overall winner is awarded an extra
£10,000. Organisations that are highly commended or runners up receive
£5,000 or £3,000.

You do not need to present a new project. The awards are designed to
recognise success and achievements for existing work.

You decide how to use the award money.

In 2008 winners and highly commended organisations will also be
offered free tailored programmes of support to meet their training and
development needs.

GlaxoSmithKline and the King's Fund have been working together to run
the IMPACT Awards for ten years. Last year they carried out a review
of previous winners. This showed that winning an IMPACT Award gave
organisations a huge morale boost, could be a key turning point in
their development, and gave many improved status, particularly with
funders and service commissioners. The Award's in-depth assessment and
feedback, professional photographs, publicity materials and help with
media coverage all gave them enormous added value.

In 2006/7 the IMPACT Award winners came from across the UK and
provided services for childhood continence; sexual health and HIV;
drug, alcohol and solvent abuse; patients newly discharged from
hospital; terminally ill people; young people needing counselling; and
victims of rape and childhood sexual abuse.
