The Vodafone UK Foundation
The Vodafone UK Foundation focuses on helping 16-25 year olds facing
exclusion from society, whether reaching a cross road in their lives,
struggling with emotional well-being or having difficulty accessing
the information that they need. It is committed to creating
sustainable change and working collaboratively with its charity
partners providing a range of resources in addition to financial
support wherever possible.

Its work forms part of Vodafone UK's wider social investment strategy
under the umbrella theme of "Unlocking Potential in Young People". It
also supports local communities in areas where Vodafone has a
significant physical presence and Vodafone employees who are involved
in community activities.

Reach is The Vodafone UK Foundation's flagship three year £5m funding
programme. Reach will fund charities working in collaboration helping
16-25 year olds facing exclusion from society. Charities are currently
being invited to apply for the funding with a view for the winning
programme to be announced in November 2007, commencing work in April
2008.

How to apply for the Reach funding

Please download and save the Reach funding application form
http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-files/Guardian/documents/2007/06/12/Reach_application_form_FINAL.doc

Please fill it out and return to
vodafoneukfoundation-reach at causeandeffect.co.uk by 5.00pm, Friday
August 17 2007. We regret that applications received after the
deadline, as well as application forms missing the important
organisation contact and charity registration details, will not be
considered.

Please include your organization/collaboration name in the file name
and note the word counts at the beginning of each section. So that
everyone has the same chance to describe their projects, we won't be
able to consider anything you write that takes you over the maximum
word limit in each section - so please be succinct!

What we are looking for

Our ideal partner will demonstrate:

1. National coverage that meets our priorities:

We focus on people aged 16 - 25 years old, promoting their inclusion
in society because:
* They are on its margins
* They are at a cross roads in their lives
* They struggle with emotional well being
* They are not accessing the information they need

2. Young people involved with the design, planning and delivery of
initiatives.

3. Collaborative working: for example linking up with other
organisations in new ways to reach beneficiaries or to address gaps
between, or duplication of, services

Our primary aim in encouraging collaboration is indicated by the new
name of our flagship programme: Reach. We do not have a fixed idea of
what a collaboration should look like, but we do know that for it to
get our support, your submission needs to clearly communicate a shared
vision of significant and fundamental benefit for the organisations
involved, and ultimately for young people themselves, as a result of a
collaborative approach.

We recognise that collaboration can take different forms and can be
achieved at various points along the design, development and delivery
of a project. So, we will take note of evidence for collaboration
wherever and whenever you can report it. In determining the value of
the collaborative elements of your project, we will always be guided
by the intended outcomes - the additional benefit to young people that
the collaboration will achieve.

For more information on collaborative working, including potential
benefits and risks, or for advice concerning any of the considerations
involved with finding, planning or delivering a collaboration, please

Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) on 020 7520 2440 or visit their website

The application process

There are three stages to the Reach Partnership selection process:

1. Initial application and long-listing (June 13 to September 3 2007)

All applicants will complete the initial application form as directed
in the previous sections

We will not be able to consider any additional materials - everything
you want us to know at this stage should be included in your
application form answers.

After sending in your completed application form, you will be notified
automatically that we have received it. If you haven't received an
email reply by Monday August 20 - please call Cause & Effect on 020
7234 0321.

Each application will be reviewed and evaluated by The Vodafone UK
Foundation and Cause & Effect.

We aim to identify a long-list of 10 collaborations. The long-list
will be finalised - including a 'sense-check' by The Vodafone UK
Foundation's trustees - and successful applicants will be notified on
Monday September 3. Unsuccessful applicants will be also notified by
email during week commencing September 3, and brief email feedback
will be available.

2. Detailed application and short-listing (September 3 to October 22
2007)

Applicants will be asked to complete a second form providing more
in-depth details describing their proposed collaboration. The Vodafone
UK Foundation will donate £2,500 to each applicant (the organisation
completing the form) in recognition of the extra input required from
this stage of the selection process.

Support to applicants will be available via email and telephone. The
deadline for submissions will be 5pm on Friday October 12.

We will aim to identify a short-list of between three and five
collaborations to go through to the final stage of the selection
process. The short-list will be finalised and the successful
applicants announced by Monday October 22. Feedback to unsuccessful
applicants will be available.

3. Project visit, presentation and final panel review (October 22 to
November 23 2007)

The final three to five collaborations will be asked to bring their
proposals to life by hosting a project visit and by delivering a short
presentation to the final selection panel.

Project visits will take place between October 22 and November 2, and
will be conducted by Sarah Shillito - Head of the Vodafone UK
Foundation, and representatives of the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
The visits will be a chance for the UK Foundation to meet the key
individuals who would work on the project.

Presentations and the final panel review will take place on November
6. The final panel will be made up of representatives of the UK
Foundation, Vodafone, the voluntary sector, Government and Parliament,
and young people themselves.

During this period we may also request additional information
necessary to conduct due diligence research into you and your partner
organisations.

The successful collaboration will be announced during week commencing
November 19, 2007.
