Child Poverty Summit
Wednesday 12th December 2007 - Central London

"In the fourth richest country in the world it is simply wrong - wrong
that any child should grow up in poverty" Gordon Brown, June 2007

The UK still has one of the worst rates of child poverty in the
industrialised world with 1 in 3 children living in poverty. As the
2010 target to halve child poverty and the 2020 deadline to eradicate
it move closer, the urgency to tackle child poverty grows greater.

However, the debate on child poverty is not just a matter of targets.
We must take a holistic view of children's lives and everything that
contributes to the downward spiral of poverty. To achieve this we need
to work in partnership with each other to adopt a cross-departmental
co-ordinated approach to the problem.

This conference brings together experts, practitioners, policy makers
and strategists fighting to eliminate child poverty, to discuss
strategic and practical ways to move the agenda forward. Covering
issues such as:
* Tackling educational inequality
* Narrowing the gap for those at greatest risk of poverty
* Developing localised child poverty strategies
* Taking a preventative approach
* Making work pay for more families
