Equal to the Task
.. How can scrutineers support their authority's commitment to
delivering equality and meeting the three legal duties on disability,
gender and race equality?
.. Is your authority producing a single Equality Plan - does it cover
all the issues?
.. Are there issues of community cohesion and diversity locally?
.. Are all your services accessible to everyone in the community?
Following a successful workshop on Scrutiny and Equalities at this
year's Annual Conference, CfPS has formed a partnership with the three
Equalities Commissions, the Commission for Racial Equality, Disability
Rights Commission and Equal Opportunities Commission, to produce a
vital Guide to Equalities written especially for scrutineers. This
will help you get to grips with the equalities agenda, understand the
detail of the three equalities duties and provide practical examples
of how scrutiny reviews have successfully tackled equalities issues.
We will be launching the guide at a special seminar on 11 September,
to be held at the Holiday Inn Coram Street, London. Experts from the
three Equalities Commissions will discuss the important role scrutiny
can play to help authorities meet their responsibilities on equalities
in the context of the changing equalities agenda, the recent Green
Paper on Equalities and the launch of the new Commission on Equalities
and Human Rights.
