Forced Marriage, Murder Manslaughter and Infanticide, Welfare Reforms
Are three public Government Consultations that have recently opened
and we have posted to womensgrid. (Sorry if you've already seen
them.)
Details of how you or your group can respond are included.
** Forced marriage consultation - closing date 15th October 2008 **
The Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007 provides for the
government to issue statutory guidance setting out the
responsibilities of all agencies dealing with forced marriage issues.
This consultation is an opportunity for practitioners and the public
to comment on the draft guidance. It lays out statutory requirements
that agencies must have with regards to tackling this issue, which
will build on their existing responsibilities to protect children and
vulnerable adults.
The guidance will play a key role in the fight against forced
marriage. It will make sure victims and potential victims receive the
response and support they need.

** Murder manslaughter and infanticide: proposals for reform of the
law - public consultation closes 20th October 2008 **
The government has been conducting a review into the law on homicide.
The first part of the review was conducted by the Law Commission. This
paper now sets out the government proposals for reforms on:
* partial defences to murder of diminished responsibility and
provocation
* the law on complicity in relation to homicide
* infanticide.

** No one written off: reforming welfare to reward responsibility -
Consultation - Closes 22nd October 2008 **
"No one written off: reforming welfare to reward responsibility" is a
wide ranging consultation on the future of welfare. The Green Paper
sets out plans for improving support and work incentives to create a
system that rewards responsibility. The majority of people of working
age - who can work now or at some point in the future - and their
families will no longer be on benefits for life. There will also be
greater choice and control over the support that is provided. We are
keen to hear your views on "No one written off: reforming welfare to
reward responsibility".
