Hello
I'm delighted to attach our flyer for our third annual Home Truths
conference - our flagship domestic violence event.
This year we're really excited to be holding Home Truths 3 over two
days. The first day is billed as "No Stats! Just Solutions and Success
Stories!" while day 2 is a focus on "Working Effectively with Men"
The title for day one is based on feedback we received from one of our
spring seminars - where a delegate, unhappy about being told all the
stuff she already knew, wrote on the evaluation form: "No Stats!
Solutions!!" We thought this was a great sentiment and have adapted it
for Home Truths 3. So, we promise not to trot out all the usual stats
about domestic violence - you know them. We promise not to list all
the problems and challenges - you already know them too. But we will
be presenting solutions to those problems (including the perennial
difficulties of funding - including how to pool budgets and how to
write winning funding bids) and showcasing success stories (including
examples where partnership working has really worked, and a project on
domestic violence and alcohol).
Day 2 is a comprehensive programme tacking a major issue that is often
sidelined: men. "Working Effectively with Men" will be looking at men
as perpetrators and men as victims - and we will be covering teenage
boys also. We'll provide examples of successful schemes and set out
practical advice on how to go about setting up a perpetrator programme
or a service for male victims. Come and network with those people who
are doing it. For example, York Women's Aid will share their
experiences of moving away from female-only services. Northamptonshire
Probation Service will be sharing success stories from its IDAP.
Both days, we hope you'll agree, promise to be practical, informative
and inspiring. And, as usual, it will be a great event to network.
And this year - with our website up and running - you can book on
line. Or if you prefer to book by e-mail we've attached a booking
form. Or simply call us on 01332 780 096.
Also - to help out - we've brought our prices down from last year:
each day is just £95 for voluntary groups and £135 for everybody else.
While signing up for both days will cost just £150 for voluntary
groups and £200 for everybody else. And on day 2 - to help encourage
more men to attend - the first ten male delegates can come for
half-price: first come, first served. So hurry!
We'll be posting up more detailed info over the next couple of weeks
or so - so keep logging onto http://www.rightthing.co.uk/ for all the
up-to-date conference news.
All best
Graham
