Foundation Degree Sustainable Communities - Part-time

This course was designed to respond to the Government’s aim to provide
people with the skills and knowledge to develop and deliver
sustainable communities.

This course develops the skills you need to have a positive impact on
communities, including • partnership working, • community
consultation, • governance and • project management.

It is for:

• professionals beginning careers in occupations such as housing,
transport, planning, environmental management, urban and
landscape design, and regeneration
• experienced professionals who want to further their studies and gain
a recognised qualification
• people working in the voluntary sector or community activists keen
to progress and benefit their local neighbourhoods

It focuses on:

• sustainable communities
• social and economic sustainability
• society, cities and politics
• the environment

Those who complete the foundation degree can pursue a BA (Hons) in
housing, planning or human geography.

Work-based experience and learning are key parts of the course. You
gain first hand experience and knowledge of current sustainable
community policy and practice.

Work placement providers include a range of community groups and
public and private organisations.

"I’m already getting a sense of how the course is successfully
bringing people together from different backgrounds to communicate and
share ideas and best practice"
Lisa Butchart, 2008 student
