The Nia Project
Working for the safety of women and children
Autumn / Winter Training Programmes

the nia project is pleased to offer a series of one day training
courses which explore particular facets of violence against women and
children.

The range of training courses offered are delivered by experienced
facilitators and designed to expand participants' knowledge and
provide practical skills in responding and creating effective
interventions for women and children.

Below is a list of courses that are being delivered:


Domestic Violence and BMER (black, minority ethnic & refugee) Women -
The course shall include

* Exploring BMER women's experience of gender violence

Refuge Support for Substance misusing Women - The course shall
include...
* Safety; for service user & support worker
* Safety planning for women with substance misuse
* Effective partnership working with substance misuse support agencies
Available dates: 7th November 2008


Violence against Disabled Women - The course shall include...
* Definitions of the social model of disability
* Access needs and adjustments
* Context of gender violence on disabled women
* Assumptions and interventions
Available dates: 14th November 2008


Domestic Violence, Children and Young People - The course shall
include...
* Effects of domestic violence on children and young people
* Domestic violence - a child protection issue?
* Effective intervention for children and young people

Young people & Sexual exploitation - The course shall include...
* Sexual exploitation: definitions and changing perceptions
* Vulnerability and risk: coercion or choice? - challenging

* Safeguarding, child protection and a youth work perspective

The courses are suitable for frontline workers, managers and other
professionals from statutory, voluntary and charitable organisations
working with women, children and young people affected by domestic
violence / sexual violence. Alternatively the courses are also useful
for those seeking to improve knowledge, awareness and understanding of
the topics.

Price per participant
* Statutory and Private sector = £130
* Voluntary and Charity sector = £75

PLEASE NOTE: If you fail to attend any course you have booked on
without giving 24hours notice, (except in an emergency) then your
organisation will be issued a £50 charge.
