Every minute police in the UK receive a call in relation to domestic
violence. This, often hidden, crime causes trauma and suffering to the
victims and families involved. It also has massive economic
consequences, with domestic violence costing £25 billion in public
services in 2005/06. A proactive response is widely recognised as
being essential if a real impact is to be made

practice at a local level, Capita's 9th Domestic Violence Conference
