New guidelines on volunteer management

The UK Workforce Hub has published a new set of standards for the
management of volunteers.

The UK Workorce Hub - run by umbrella bodies the NCVO, Nicva, the SCVO
and the WCVA - says the new National Occupational Standards will
improve the quality of volunteer management.

The 151-page document* lists things managers should do to promote
volunteering, recruit and manage volunteers and manage themselves.
People taking a National Vocational Qualification in volunteer
management will have to show that they have met the standards.

The hub wrote the guidelines after asking volunteers and managers to
submit their opinions online.

Janet Fleming, head of the UK Workforce Hub, said volunteers and their
managers would benefit enormously from the new standards.

Justin Davis Smith, chief executive of Volunteering England, said the
standards would help volunteer managers develop their own skills and
professionalism.
