Ludlow Awards 2009 open for nominations - with £43,000 in prize money

The Andy Ludlow Homelessness Awards 2009 open for nominations today
(Thursday), with organisations tackling homelessness in London being
given the chance of winning a share of £43,000 - nearly double last
year's prize money.

The country's leading homelessness awards - run by London Councils -
recognise projects that improve services to homeless people, prevent
homelessness, or tackle disadvantage caused by homelessness.

They are open to registered social landlords, borough housing and
social service departments, NHS trusts and voluntary organisations
across the capital.

The winner will receive £20,000, with £10,000 going to two runners-up
and a further £1,000 going to the remaining three shortlisted
projects.

Now in their 11th year, the awards are funded by all 33 London
authorities together with sponsorship from Communities and Local
Government, the London Housing Foundation, and Shelter.

London Councils' Executive Member for Housing, Councillor Steve Reed,
said: "The Andy Ludlow Awards are a real highlight of London Councils'
year and allow us to showcase the many organisations that are working
tirelessly to tackle homelessness across the capital.

"In the current economic climate, their efforts will be called on more
than ever - and with almost double the amount of prize money up for
grabs this year, it's a great time for them to receive the recognition
they deserve. I look forward to this being the best awards yet."

The closing date for entries is Wednesday 20 May 2009. Any
organisation wanting to find out more about the awards or to apply can
