Young Women Campaigning for Change

Time: 10.30am - 4pm (Lunch and Refreshments will be

Address: 594 High Road Tottenham, London, N17 9TA,

We believe that in order to get their voice heard, young women of
African origin living in the UK need to engage in campaigning and
advocacy to share their ideas, perspectives and concerns.

The aim of this workshop is to encourage young African women to play
bigger roles in their communities' lives and fulfil their potential as
agent of change by using their energies to raise awareness and tackle
racism, sexism and other forms of prejudice.

Topics to be covered will include:
· What is it to be a young woman from African origin in the UK today?
· Campaigning, policy, advocacy: the meaning beyond the "big" words
· How change happens and should I be involved?

This workshop will be facilitated by Yeukai Taruvinga. Yeukai came to
the UK in 2002 to seek asylum from the Mugabe regime. When not working
for the Refugee Council Policy Team, she is campaigning on Human
Rights or involved in empowering young people.

Yeukai is the winner of the Campaigns Volunteer of the Year Award
2008.
