Hello
We are delighted to let you know about our second annual conference on
Domestic Violence and the Arts. Last year's event was so well received
("This day has altered my life"; "The whole day was amazing";
"Inspired!; "Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic!") we simply had to put
on another!
If we are to tackle domestic violence as a society, it is crucial that
we work effectively and therapeutically not only with victims and
survivors but also raise awareness to all adults and children: and
that means targeting all our communities and schools.
And one of the most effective ways of achieving all this is through
the use of the creative arts. This essential and unique conference
showcases how this can happen. We are also proud to be using Derby's
brand new art and film centre - The Quad. A great venue for what
promises to be another great day.
We will have live performances of specially commissioned poetry from
the brilliant John Hegley and Jo Bell; and specially commissioned
music from Belinda O'Hooley (best known as the songwriter and pianist
in Mercury Award nominees Rachel Unthank and the Winterset) and Heidi
Tidow. Completing our performance line-up will be a drama and a
screening of the award-winning film "Leaving".
Our workshops will show you how you can use poetry, film,
dramatherapy, aromatherapy, art therapy, creative writing, drama and
dance with not only survivors and victims of domestic abuse (including
children), but how it can help you and your colleagues develop your
skills and knowledge as well. And how the arts can be used generally
to raise awareness within schools and communities.
So, come to listen. Come to watch. Come to learn. And come to terms
with what a dramatic difference we can all make in our work and the
lives of those people who matter most: the victims, survivors and
child witnesses of domestic violence.
We do hope you are able to make it
All best
Graham
