The Sigrid Rausing Trust is a grant-giving foundation based in London. It was
founded in 1995 by Sigrid Rausing to support the international human rights
movement.
We run four programmes:
* Civil and Political Rights,
* Women's Rights,
* Minority Rights
* Social and Environmental Justice.
Each programme has a number of sub-programmes, which you will find by selecting
a programme above.
Our guiding principles are:
* We recognise the essential role of core funding.
* We look for good and effective leadership.
* We are flexible and responsive to needs and opportunities.
* We value clarity and brevity in applications and reports.
* We establish long term relationships with grantees.
In 2009 the trustees intend to give away £20million.
Types of Grant and Application Process
The trust gives two key types of grants:
Main Grants currently vary in size between £15,000 and £850,000. The trustees
make decisions about main grants at their meetings three times a year, usually
in February, June and October.
The Trust does not accept unsolicited applications. To enquire about an
invitation to apply, please fill the form below. We regret that only a small
number of organisations which register an enquiry can be invited by the trustees
to submit a full application.

Main grants are awarded on a competitive basis for either one, or three years,
and can be renewed following a new application upon invitation.
Small Grants are grants of up to £15,000. They are awarded throughout the year
and are intended for small organisations, who find it difficult to fundraise
from international funding agencies. Several of our small grantees have gone on
to receive main grants. Applications for a small grant must come with a
recommendation from an existing grantee or another funding agency.
To enquire about an invitation to apply, please fill the form below. If there is
interest in your project, you may be invited to submit a full application for a
small grant.

The Trust may also consider, on an exceptional basis, an Advancement Grant, only
to existing grantees, designed to support a major infrastructure step change for
an organisation.
Under exceptional circumstances, the trust can also provide Emergency Funds, as
a response to a sudden human rights crisis or in order to protect human rights
defenders -upon a recommendation by an existing grantee, another funding agency,
or a contact in the field.
