Subject: Rosa News - March 2009

Dear Supporters,

Welcome to Rosa News, our new look newsletter which will be landing in
your inboxes quarterly. We will be keeping you up to date on what we
are currently up to and our plans for the future.

March is a month for celebrating women. With International Women’s Day
and Mother’s Day we hope that you have felt appreciated and valued and
have taken the opportunity to show women in your life that you care.
At Rosa we have been doing our bit to make the world a better place
for women by preparing to give away our first grants. We had over 100
exciting applications on the theme of Body Image which we are
short-listing ready to announce the successful projects in May.

Our Board of Trustees has also decided to celebrate and support a
woman campaigner by sponsoring a Sheila McKechnie Foundation Award
(visit site - http://dmtrk2.net/4DV-T10-AVKGZ-6KM2-0/c.aspx ). I’m
proud to announce exclusively in our newsletter The Rosa ‘Women
Creating Change’ Award 2009 — supporting women to achieve equality and
justice. The Foundation's awards will be launched on 1 April 2009 with
applications accepted until June. The Foundation was established in
2005 to help develop campaigners tackling the root causes of
injustice. Set up in memory of Dame Sheila McKechnie, an ardent and
able campaigner herself, it is dedicated to helping people create
positive and lasting social change. As part of our collaborative
approach to equality and justice for women and girls in the UK we are
sure this partnership will be exciting and fruitful.

We want to thank you for your continued support — we’ll be in touch
again in summer.

Best wishes from the Rosa team,

Dinah Cox
Executive Director

CELEBRATE HER
Alice Hooper shares why she celebrated her mother, Maggie Hooper

The chance to sponsor Rosa and help other women who may not have had
the same start in life of luck that I did felt like the perfect way to
honour my mother.

Born in England, my mother spent most of her childhood travelling
around the Far East. She still laments the fact that she doesn't have
a single childhood friend from those days, and this led her to ensure
my brother and I had a wonderful childhood, boasting many long term
friends. Read more » http://dmtrk2.net/4DV-T10-AVKGZ-6KM1-0/c.aspx

WHY I GIVE
Tricia Allen honours a feminist who paved the way

I donated money to Rosa when it first started up in 2008 in memory of
my aunt Mildred (or Madeleine as she was known to her feminist
friends) Levius who died in September 2005.

Mildred was a feminist much of her life and devoted considerable time
and energy to numerous women’s causes. She was passionate about
promoting the role of the older woman and in particular combating the
negative stereotype of older women in both society and indeed feminist
circles. Read more » http://dmtrk2.net/4DV-T10-AVKGZ-6KM0-0/c.aspx
