Clore Social Leadership Programme

Fellowship overview

The Programme will use a Fellowship model. Individuals from the third
sector will apply - through an open competition - for a Fellowship
award. The Fellowship will run for a period of up to two years.

The Programme will be tailored to individual Fellows' development. It
will combine a portfolio of core components in which all Fellows will
take part, with bespoke activities and training to meet their
particular needs and learning styles. These activities will be
determined by Fellows with guidance from the staff team, and informed
by a 360-degree assessment (repeated at the end of the Fellowship) to
help identify individual strengths and weaknesses. The training
activities will be undertaken within an agreed timetable.

In devising the Fellowship Programme, we have taken into account what
is known about successful leadership programmes.

The Programme will:
* promote self-awareness and allow time for reflection
* provide opportunities to 'learn by doing'
* accommodate a range of different learning styles
* provide one-to-one mentoring and coaching
* provide opportunities for learning from different people and
organisations, through visits, shadowing and secondments
* facilitate ongoing networking among the Fellows

Fellowship funding

There are two financial options for you to consider:

One option is for you to undertake the Fellowship full-time. You may
choose to do this if, for example, you are self-employed, taking a
career break or unpaid sabbatical. If you follow this option, you will
normally be eligible for a bursary of up to £20,000.

A second option is for you to stay in employment during the
Fellowship. If you are planning to do so, you will need to provide
evidence of support from your employer when you submit your
application. If you are offered a Fellowship, we will discuss with
your employer the level of grant (up to £20,000) we will pay to them
to help cover for the periods while you are away during the year.

In addition we will pay the direct costs associated with the
Programme, including tuition fees and accommodation for residential
courses.

We will consider your application on merit, not on your financial
situation.

Duration of Fellowship

The Fellowship can be undertaken intensively over 12 months, or
part-time over a period of up to 24 months - you need to tell us which
option you would prefer. In the employment section of the form
(Section 1, Q5), you need to tell us about your current employment
status. If you are employed, you need to let us know whether you plan
to carry on working part-time at the same time as undertaking the
Fellowship.

Contents of Fellowship

The Programme will be tailored to individual Fellows' development. It
will combine a portfolio of core components in which all Fellows will
take part, with bespoke activities and training to meet their
particular needs and learning styles.

We are in the process of designing the full Fellowship Programme, but
core components of the Fellowship will include:
* 360 degree review to provide evidence of capability and potential
* Residential weeks to include a variety of site visits to challenging
contexts
* Shorter residential sessions and day workshops with groups of
Fellows
* Action learning sets in groups of Fellows
* Access to online networks between Fellows and e-learning
opportunities
* A personal mentor for each Fellow
* Additional forms of support purchased or commissioned as required
for each Fellow
* An extended outplacement
* Research project to develop Fellows' skills as critical users of
research and to develop a wider evidence base for the sector
* Access to coaching support in planning career progression

In order to maintain its flexibility, the Programme will not lead to a
formal qualification.
