Dear Colleague,

You are cordially invited to the launch of 'For Honour and Love', a
specialist training resource on honour based Violence on Friday 26 March
2010 at Amnesty International UK between 3 - 6pm.

The event will opened by London's Green Party MEP, Jean Lambert and
discussions will be enriched by a panel of specialists.  This event will be
an exciting opportunity to explore current policy initiatives around
honour-based violence and ask questions.

Between 2008/2009 the Police report 132 instances of honour-based offences.
In the first half of 2009/2010 there were 129 report cases.  This is a huge
rise in reported honour-based violence (hbv).  This could be explained by
the profile of hbv being raised among community groups who are more willing
to report and/or because of an improved police response to victims of hbv.
However, honour-based violence still remains hugely under-reported and much
more needs to be done to raise awareness and to change attitudes.

The training resource includes a DVD and a training manual.  The short films
have been produced in collaboration with 18 And Under and the Nationwide
Foundation.  Each film short explores a different aspect of Honour-based
violence; the threat of honour killing, forced marriage, female genital
mutilation and issues relating to isolation and patriarchal control.
